Some traits that make thins alive are:
1. All life forms have DNA
2.All life forms reproduce
3.All life forms take energy from It's surroundings and convert it to energy to help it live
4.All life forms can sense changes in their surroundings and respond to them.

Flames are not alive because they do not have DNA and they cannot addapt to their surroundings.

Fire isn't considered alive.
There are a total of five traits.
Homeostasis
Metabolism
Reproduction
Heredity
Cellular Organization

Do I get extra credit for this? :)
I like your idea about a blog.
